What You Need For Metal Fabrication
If you’re starting out as a welder or metal fabricator, then you might be wondering where to begin. Watch this video to learn about the five essential tools you need to succeed in metalworking
The first tool you will need is an air compressor. The size you get should be based on if the rest of your tools need the compressor to function.
Regardless, a small air compressor just to utilize a blower to clean off your station can save you a lot of time and stress. A cut-off wheel, electric or air powered, is essential to be able to cut into anything. Saws work as well, but this may be more convenient when it comes to fabrications.
Next, an angle grinder with a three-inch disk is an imperative addition to your collection. These can also be air powered or electric, but an added feature comes from the ability to swap out the roll lock and use the same base for both the angle grinder and the cut-off wheel. The fourth tool you will need is a drill. A drill press isn’t necessary right as your start your business. The final thing you will need is a welder. Smaller welding machines might cost less and function well, but don’t undersell yourself!
Keep in mind, these tools will require other accessories such as goggles, gloves, and power cords. Your work is only as good as the tools you use to create it, so while you can start small, make sure they are of good quality.
